Countdown

The broadfork has been getting quite a workout this spring!
Not that we are counting, but there are only 15 days left until the first box of 2015 rolls out!  We have been planting and planting and planting and were rewarded for our hard work with a very nice inch of steady rain.  The peas are on target, growing up and up, our new pullets are hard working in the field eating bugs or as we like to call it "earning their keep".
All of our plants start here as organic seeds.  They are then planted one by one into a custom organic seed mix made by Craig.  We water them and and keep them warm in our hoop house until the time is right, usually around this time of May, to get out into the field where they can spread their roots and shoot towards the sun.
If you are interested in joining our CSA this year, please email us for info.  We have spots available in Rapids, Stevens Point and Marshfield!
4 foot garlic-for real!  Scapes are coming :)
Every year we play around and try new things.  We might try different varieties of certain plants or something totally new we have never grown before.  There are so many options!  One thing that is true every year is amendment of the soil.  This year we returned again to Midwestern Bio Ag to enrich our soil. We also had a sand spreader give us a good layer of sand before the ground thawed which will help our heavy clay greatly.  The sand will encourage drainage and the Bio Ag amendment will increase the health and strength of our plants.
Basil, chamomile and head lettuces abound in the eastern bed.
